Living life with purpose

Our lives are as short as the tiny red tape around the end of a never-ending rope of eternity – the illustration of Francis Chan.

It reminded me in a powerful way that I needed to change perspective on how I live life every day. It challenged me to shift the focus from myself to the people around me. To care more and to love more because LOVE is the only thing that matters in the end.

“If I can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”

I choose to live purposefully by loving God and by loving people. And this means a change of perspective. Whatever I do I have to ask myself whether it’s aligned with this purpose. It makes it much easier to cut out the things that are not serving that purpose. It also helps me to fight my weaknesses – not getting angry when my kids go crazy. Before responding in anger I remind myself almost every time now that this is another opportunity to practice patience and therefore anger is useless here.

I began looking at the people around me with different eyes and I understand them better. I’m only beginning to understand what love really is but am still far from what I should be. To love people I must put on their glasses and understand their needs as if they were my own.
